About Statuses

For background information, see: About the Basic Workflow

The following is only an example – you can have as many or as few workflows for your work area.

Sched: (Scheduling)

This status begins the patient journey through RIS.

Confirm:

Two or more days prior to the appointment date, a Nurse (for CT) or High-Tech Scheduler (for MR) will contact the patient to confirm the exam date and time, as well as detailed medical history to better prepare for the date of service. Once the Medical History screen has been completed in RIS, the status is manually changed to Confirm.

Arrived:

Once the patient arrives to begin registration at the front desk, the front desk staff member changes the status of the patient to Arrived. The front desk staff will provide the patient with any necessary paperwork to complete at this time. This status lets you more accurately capture your patient wait time.

Ready:

The front desk staff member scans any applicable documents into RIS (e.g. requisition, insurance card) and then completes the check-in function to verify patient demographics and insurance information. Once completed, RIS automatically changes the status of the patient to Ready. The patient is now ready for the technologist.

Preparation:

The technologist may manually change the patient status to Prep to capture the time spent in patient preparation prior to starting the exam. This could include paperwork, review patient history, or drinks.

Started:

After the technologist has greeted the patient and begins the exam, she or he must manually change the patient status to Started.

Exam Done:

After the technologist has completed the exam and finalized documentation of the exam on the screens and protocol tabs in RIS (that mimic your existing worksheets), the technologist changes the patient status to Exam Done. The patient is now ready for the radiologist to read the exam.

Dictated:

After the radiologist has read and dictated the report, the status will automatically change to Dictated. The report is now ready for the transcriptionist to type. If reports are linked, the linked reports will have a status of Linked and only the main report will have a status of Signed.

Review:

After the transcriptionist has typed the report, the status is automatically changed to Review. The report is now ready for the radiologist to review and modify or sign the transcribed report. For credentialing, a report can be signed twice.

Signed:

After the radiologist has reviewed and approved the transcribed report for accuracy, or if the report was a standard normal, the radiologist will check Sign 2 to automatically change the status to Signed.

Detours (Other Possible Status Changes):

Facility: The exam is canceled because of the facility. An example would be a contradiction determined at confirmation, for insurance reasons, or possibly because of equipment failures.

Patient: The exam is canceled because of the patient.

Referring Doctor: The exam is canceled because of the referring doctor.

Not Done: The technologist determined there was a contradication.

Incomplete: The technologist could only complete part of the exam (for example, patient is claustrophobic, uncomfortable, etc.).

No Show: A patient does not arrive on the scheduled date / time of the exam. At end of day, the front desk staff member changes all patients left on the worklist to No Show.
