A critical result is a test result that suggests a serious medical condition that may require immediate attention for the patient. The radiologist reports any critical test results to the referring physician immediately after reading and interpreting the result. The radiologist documents to whom the result was reported, the date, and the time.
The radiologist can monitor the Critical Results worklist to view the status of each critical result such as the days outstanding or if confirmation has been received.
Referring physicians can access RIS and view their own Critical Results worklist.
